Between the I and the Self, where awareness becomes choice

No two people arrive in therapy for the same reason. You may be struggling with anxiety, grief, trauma, relationship difficulties or a sense that something in your life no longer feels right. Equally, you may not know what is wrong.

You do not need to have everything figured out before reaching out. Part of my role is to help you make sense of what you are experiencing.

Initial Consultation

I offer a free 15-minute telephone conversation to answer any questions you may have and to explore what brings you to therapy.

Our first full session is an assessment, but it is also the beginning of our work together. It gives us space to understand your current difficulties, your personal history and what you hope to gain from therapy. Just as importantly, it allows us to see whether we feel we can work well together.

If I believe another therapist or service would better meet your needs, I will discuss this with you openly and, where possible, help you find appropriate support.

How I Work

My approach is integrative, which means I draw on different therapeutic traditions rather than following a single model.

At the heart of my work is the belief that many of our difficulties are not random. They often develop as creative ways of adapting to earlier experiences, relationships or circumstances. The patterns that once helped us cope can later leave us feeling anxious, disconnected or repeating the same struggles in our relationships and daily lives.

Together we will explore these patterns with curiosity rather than judgement. Therapy is not about fixing you or offering quick answers. It is about understanding yourself more fully, recognising what has shaped you, and creating space for new ways of relating to yourself and others.

Alongside conversation, I may invite you to notice your thoughts, emotions, bodily sensations, dreams, imagination or the different parts of yourself that emerge during therapy. These experiences often carry important information about who we are and what we need.

My hope is that therapy becomes a place where you feel safe enough to explore every part of yourself, including the parts that may have felt misunderstood, rejected or hidden for many years.

What Sessions Are Like

Sessions last 50 minutes and usually take place once a week at the same time each week.

There is no expectation to arrive with a clear agenda. Some sessions may focus on current events, while others naturally lead into earlier experiences, relationships or recurring patterns. We work at a pace that feels manageable, allowing insight and change to develop over time rather than forcing them.

Therapy is rarely a straight line. There may be periods of clarity, uncertainty, sadness, relief and growth. All of these experiences are welcome and can become meaningful parts of the work.

Is This Approach Right for You?

My way of working may suit you if you are looking for more than symptom relief. Many clients come because they want to understand themselves more deeply, improve their relationships, process difficult experiences, or reconnect with a greater sense of meaning and authenticity.

If you are looking primarily for structured exercises, homework or immediate solutions, another therapeutic approach may be a better fit. If I believe that is the case, I will always discuss this with you honestly.
